Alfred and Voice AI: what is the difference

Sephona has two separate AI features. They can both run on the same kiosk, or you can turn only one on. The device form says so: Voice ordering and Alfred upsell are independent — turn each on separately.

Alfred (AI & Upselling)AI and Upselling Upsell Intelligence page with Alfred

Alfred suggests extras after a guest adds an item, and again on Your Order. Configuration lives under AI & Upselling in the dashboard (persona, tone, guardrails). On the device, the toggle is Enable AI Upsells (Alfred).

On the kiosk the guest sees a suggestion card and can Add to Cart or No, thanks.

Voice AI

Voice AI is hold-to-speak ordering. The guest holds the mic, says something like “Add a beef burger” or “Remove the pickles”, and the cart updates. The bar copy is Hold to speak. It is hidden at checkout and on the payment terminal.

Operators configure it on Voice AI (shown with a premium licence) and with the per-device Voice AI toggle. It is not the same service as Alfred.

Which one to turn on

  • Want silent on-screen upsells only — Alfred on, Voice AI off.
  • Want guests to speak their order — Voice AI on. Add Alfred if you still want suggestion cards.
  • Need neither — leave both off. The kiosk still takes touch orders and payments.
