How to Add a New Modifier Group in Sephona

Overview: In the Sephona system, a "Modifier Group" acts as the parent category for all the delicious customizations you offer your customers. For example, if you sell a burger, your Modifier Groups might be "Choose Your Bun," "Add Cheese," or "Extra Sauces".

Because Sephona is built for maximum speed on the kiosk hardware, it takes these groups and turns them into lightning-fast lookup dictionaries in its memory. This means when a customer taps "Customize," the screen updates with zero latency.

Below is a step-by-step guide on how to create the foundation of a new Modifier Group in your admin dashboard.

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Navigate to the Modifiers Section From your main dashboard menu on the left side, locate and click on Modifiers. This section houses all the customization rules for your entire restaurant.

2. Initialize a New Group In the top right corner of the screen, click the Add Modifier button. This will open a fresh configuration panel where you can define the rules for your new group.

3. Define the Internal Name Click into the Internal Name* field and type the name you want to use for your own backend organization.

  • Pro-Tip: Your customers will never see this name. It is best to use highly descriptive titles here (like "Burger_Premium_Toppings_Lunch") so your kitchen and management staff can easily identify it in reports later.

4. Define the Display Name Click into the Display Name field and type the title exactly as you want it to appear to your customers on the kiosk screen. Make it clear and inviting, such as "Choose Your Premium Toppings".

5. Assign the Dataset Click the Select a Dataset dropdown menu. You must choose the specific dataset that matches your store or testing environment. Sephona uses a specific Data Set ID during its boot-up sequence to know exactly which menu mapping to download.

6. Save Your New Group Once all your details are filled in, click the Add New Modifier Group button at the bottom of the form to lock in your settings.

What Happens Next?

Once your group is created, two critical things happen within the Sephona ecosystem:

  • Enforcing Rules: Later, you will be able to attach Minimum and Maximum constraints to this group. The Sephona React UI mathematically proves and honors these constraints dynamically. If you set a rule that says "Max 3 Toppings," Sephona will physically block the customer from adding a fourth.

  • Real-Time Kiosk Updates: When you hit save, Sephona's robust WebSocket pipeline catches the update. If this update involves deep architectural changes to your modifiers, the kiosk stealthily calls a background refresh to download the new schema without interrupting the customer.
