How to Add a New Modifier Option in Sephona

Overview: In the Sephona system, Modifier Options are the actual, individual customization items your customers select, such as "Bacon", "Mayo", or "Gluten-Free".

Instead of forcing the kiosk to load these choices one by one, Sephona's normalization engine crushes this data into a lightning-fast lookup dictionary called modifierOptionsById. This guarantees that when a customer wants to customize their meal, the choices appear on the screen instantly with zero latency.

This guide provides a clear walkthrough for assigning internal names, pricing, and grouping your new modifier options to streamline your digital menu setup.

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Open Menu Management From your main dashboard navigation, click on Menu Management.

2. Navigate to Modifier Options In the sub-menu, click on Modifier Options to access the list of all your individual add-on items.

3. Start a New Option In the top right corner, click the Add Modifier Option button.

Click "Add Modifier Option"

4. Define the Internal and Display Names

  • Click into the Internal Name* field and type your backend tracking name (customers will not see this).

  • Click into the Display Name field and type the name exactly as it should appear to your customers on the kiosk screen.

Click the "Internal Name*" field.

5. Set Pricing and Inventory Codes

  • Click the Price* field and enter the standard cost for this addition. Sephona correctly calculates final prices by mapping this cost against the base item dynamically.

  • Click the SKU Code and PLU Code fields to enter your specific inventory tracking numbers so this item routes perfectly to your POS.

6. Assign to a Modifier Group Click the Choose Groups dropdown menu to assign this specific option to a parent category (like assigning "Bacon" to the "Choose Your Toppings" group).

  • Note: By linking this here, Sephona creates cross-referenced lookup arrays in memory, so it knows exactly which items belong to which menus without having to search.

7. Upload an Image and Save

  • Click the file upload field to add a thumbnail image for your modifier option.

  • Once everything looks perfect, click Add New Modifier Choice at the bottom of the screen to save your new item!

    Click "Add New Modifier Choice"

Success! Because your Sephona kiosks are constantly connected, saving this new option sends an update directly to your hardware. The kiosk catches this update so it appears live on screen instantly!
